In honor of Juneteenth, the Hannibal Square Heritage Center invites the community to a special Open House commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. Juneteenth marks the historic day—June 19, 1865—when Union troops, led by Major General Gordon Granger, arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that the Civil War had ended and all enslaved people were free. This moment came more than two years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.
Guests are invited to enjoy refreshments and take guided tours of the Heritage Center as we reflect on this important milestone in American history.
