Orange Blossom Blues Society Presents "Blues In The Schools" BITS Initiative Educational Program in Sanford, FL Friday July 12, 2024
The Orange Blossom Blues Society (OBBS) is proud to announce the "Blues In The Schools" program, an educational initiative designed to introduce school children to the rich history and soulful sounds of Blues music. This exciting presentation will take place on July 12, 2024, at the Boys and Girls Club West Sanford Branch located at 919 S. Persimmon, within the City of Sanford’s Dr. Velma H. Williams Westside Community Center.
This program is funded in part by the Seminole Cultural Arts Council (SCAC) from a Grant awarded to the Orange Blossom Blues Society and In-Kind donations from supporters.
The event will feature Blues music and history, featuring artist Steve Arvey known for his performances with unique "cigar box guitars” that he also builds. This engaging presentation will offer students a firsthand experience of Blues music, illustrating its significant impact on the evolution of modern music genres.
Cathy Bowers, President of the Orange Blossom Blues Society, emphasized the educational value of the program: "This is a great introduction to the important role Blues Music has played in American History. It's a wonderful way to engage students and show them how Blues music has influenced today's music."
The "Blues In The Schools" program is designed to be interactive, with opportunities for children to participate scheduled by age group and specific times.
