Join us this June for an exciting week-long summer camp discovering the different types of raptors and how we can protect them in the wild. This summer’s theme is Myths and Legends, and we will discover all the amazing ways birds of prey have been viewed through the centuries. On each day of camp, campers will explore different raptors and conservation issues and learn to be stewards of their environment. This exciting educational experience for rising 1st through 6th graders will include crafts, games, hands-on activities, and live raptor viewing at the Audubon Center for Birds of Prey!
Monday: The first day of camp we’ll explore Norse mythology and falcons. We’ll learn all about migration and become migrating birds ourselves.
Tuesday: Today campers will discover the amazing world of owls and how they hunt silently. We’ll dissect an owl pellet and learn about Athena’s owls in Greek mythology, and even have our own Olympic games!
Wednesday: Today campers will get to know the vultures, Pharaoh’s sacred birds! They’ll get to become raptor caretakers themselves as they make enrichment for the birds. Plus, we’ll go on a birding excursion to a local park.
Thursday: Today is all about eagles as we learn about the importance of water and the raptors that rely on it. We’ll make our own Roman Eagle Standards and get a little wet with some water games.
Friday: What is cryptozoology? On the last day we’ll learn about the birds that might or might not be. We’ll learn about what beaks are good for what type of food, and even invent our very own raptor!
