The Music Man is a Tony Award-winning musical comedy written by Meredith Willson that premiered in 1957. The story is about a con man named Harold Hill who travels the Midwest in July 1912 posing as a music professor and leader of boys' bands. He sells instruments and uniforms to townsfolk, promising to train the bands, but has no musical knowledge and plans to skip town without teaching them. However, his plans are complicated when he falls for Marian, a prim librarian and piano teacher who sees through his con. Marian's belief in Harold's ability may help him succeed in spite of himself.
The show is known for its quirky characters, nostalgic score, rousing marches, barbershop quartets, and sentimental ballads.
Playing this weekend only at First United Methodist Church of Oviedo.
