AGES 7-12
CHARACTER VOICE OVERS - 9:00am-12:00pm Voice acting is the art of performing a character, and a truly effective character voiceover requires the skill of an actor. In this workshop, students will get to unleash their inner actor to bring a character to life with their voices. Through a series of activities, they will learn how to create unique voices, understand the basics of vocal performance, and explore how voice-overs are used in animation, video games, and storytelling. They will choose a character from a group of pre-selected animation clips, record their own voice-over for that character, and will use editing software to synch their recordings with the animation. VIDEO STORY MAKER - 1:00pm-4:00pm A video story is an engaging video used to tell a narrative or convey a meaningful message. This workshop will guide young storytellers through the entire process of making their own short video stories. They will learn how to use basic video equipment, explore different filming techniques, capture footage, and edit their video to enhance the story being told. Ages 13-17
STOP MOTION ANIMATION - 9:00am-12:00pm Stop Motion Animation is a form of filmmaking. This animation is captured one frame at a time and physical objects are moved in small increments between those frames. When the sequence is played back, it creates the illusion of movement. In this workshop, students will practice this art of stop motion animation. They will storyboard their ideas, select their actors (objects), set the scene, and begin capturing their shots. Once their frames are in place and the sequence is complete, they will use a video editor to refine and embellish their film with intros, titles, and possibly sound. COLOR CORRECTION IN FILM - 1:00pm-4:00pm When it comes to filmmaking, color correction unifies your footage and makes it aesthetically pleasing for viewers. In this workshop, students will learn to establish a consistent look for a film by emphasizing color, saturation, and tone. Using industry-leading software, students will color correct a pre-selected film clip by adjusting dark tones, mid-tones, highlights, and white balance. In the end, they will have unified their footage to ensure it communicates the intended aesthetic and mood.
