The Winter Park Playhouse serves the community by providing ongoing opportunities for diverse individuals of all ages, races and income levels to come together and interact, celebrate and share in meaningful theatrical experiences. Its programs enrich lives, cultivate an appreciation for the arts and provide thousands of needy residents with experiences they otherwise may not have.
REACH (Relevant Educational Arts for Children) was launched in 2009 in response to a community need that emerged when the economy was struggling, public schools were cutting budgets, and valuable arts programs were being eliminated. Our In-School Performances offer students with the opportunity to see a live musical production for free. The Playhouse tours Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr., a musical that teaches history, grammar, math, science and politics, to Title I elementary schools throughout Central Florida. Supplemental support materials are distributed to teachers prior to the performances to enhance the overall learning experience.

REACH: Artist-in-Residence
An extension of REACH (Relevant Educational Arts for Children), The Playhouse’s Artists-in-Residence program sends college-educated professional teaching artists into our community to work with children at no cost to them. The Playhouse provides age-appropriate classes in music, dance and drama in after- school programs, community centers, summer camps, and day nurseries. These classes increase self- confidence, cultivate an appreciation for the arts and teach students critical life skills such as self- esteem, responsibility, time management, team-work, respect, and discipline. Within each cast, boys and girls are equal, the shy experiment with bravery and the disabled become able. They learn that each person is an important and necessary part of the world in which we live.
